The Cake is Not a Lie by HekateLesedi
The Cake is Not a Lie
My brother wanted a portal cake for his birthday, so I delivered. It's a devil's food cake with vanilla icing and chocolate chip garnish. I made the icing dollups for the cherries from scratch, so they unfortunately didn't turn or quite right, but it was my first ever attempt at baking, and all things considered, I think I did pretty well.

How long have you been on DeviantArt?
If my profile page is to be believed, ten years.

What does your username mean?
I'm kind of ashamed to admit this, but I used a naming book in high school to come up with a Wiccan name for myself, and according to that book, my name is a mix of Greek and Swahili that comes out to mean something akin to "Far-Off Light".

Describe yourself in three words.
Tentative prospective animator.

Are you left or right handed?
Total leftie.

What was your first deviation?
I think it's this:
Chambord by HekateLesedi

What is your favourite type of art to create?
I'm loving animating.

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
I'd like to master animation.  I know it's the same thing, but I've only just started, so I don't think it counts.

What was your first favourite?
something by an artist who erased their account, so unfortunately I can't find it.

What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
I love pretty much everything, but right now I'm pretty interested in digital 2D art.

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
That's a tie between :devidnebezial:/:devidshiniez: and :deviddestinyblue:.

If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
I've met :deviddestinyblue:, which was pretty darned awesome, but at this point in my artistic career, I'd really like to meet :devidnebezial:.  Preferably to get some tips/tricks on how to use ZBrush.

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
Every deviant on my watch list has impacted my life.  And a lot of them taught me that, no matter what family might say, it's okay to be, and make a living off being, a nerd.

What are your preferred tools to create art?
My Cintiq is my pride and joy, but I still love working with pencil and paper.

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
when I'm surrounded by the things that bring me joy, I'm at my most creative.

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
probably learning that there was a place out there where I could get great criticism and input on my work.  It's meant a lot to me as an artist.

For the record, I have no idea where to tag this thing, so I'm doing it down here.  #deviantartistquestionnaire

I'd also like to state for the record that the portfolio section of this website needs to be able to support video.  As someone who is attempting to get into art school, many schools have actually declined my applications because I couldn't show them my reel in my portfolio.

City of Veils (Unfinished Sketch 3#) by Art-of-Aces
If you're new, and this was a quick sketch, then I am beyond words. This looks amazing. I'd expect to see something like this in a book detailing the process of making a blockbuster film. It's creative, has a cohesive color palette, and very unique. The buildings look similar to Prince of Persia or Mos Eisley, but I could see this being a diverse fantasy setting, as well. I imagine something like the Way of Shadows trilogy occurring here.

One thing I'd suggest is pulling those figures in front out a little more, as well as working on the creature's anatomy/markings. In such an amazing drawing, it looks a little thrown together. Check out arvalis class on creating believable creatures if that interests you.

Keep it up. Your talent can only grow from here.
